The artist was born in Akola, India, in 1922. He completed his Diploma in painting at the J.J. School of Art, Bombay, in 1952.

From 1962, he has held solo shows in India as also in Norway, West Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark, besides participating in group shows all over the world.

In 1963, he received the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademy, New Delhi, and from 1965 he was invited to work in the United States and Germany. In 1994, he received a stipend from BKS, Norway, and he currently lives and works in Oslo, Norway.

His paintings are in several collections like the Norsk Kulturrad, Norway, State Gallery, Norway, Ben & Abbey Grey Foundation, U.S.A., and the Tata Institute of Fundamental research, India.
